United Methodists commission young adults

The United Methodist Board of Global Ministries has activated a new group of
US-2 missionaries.

During the August commissioning service in Atlanta for the US-2 class of
1999-2001, its members were urged to be "messengers of salvation and peace
in Jesus' name." The mission program places young adults in two-year
assignments in a variety of urban and rural settings.

The missionaries, listed with their home annual (regional) conferences and
assignments, are: Allison Bales, Western Pennsylvania Conference, assigned
to McCurdy Mission School, Espanola, N.M.; Rachel Barnett, Holston
Conference, to Wesley Rankin Community Center in Dallas; and Jennifer
Battiest, Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference, to Robeson County Church
and Community Center in Lumberton, N.C.

Also, Emily Benson, Illinois Great Rivers Conference, to Christ United
Methodist Church/Church of the Deaf in Baltimore; Allison Carr, Mississippi
Conference, to Cunningham Children's Home, Urbana, Ill.; Victoria Chipoka,
Dakotas Conference, to Samaritan House in Atlanta; and Melissa Conley, Iowa
Conference, to Café 458 in Decatur, Ga.

Also, Katie Goetz, California-Nevada Conference, to Samaritan House in
Atlanta; Susan Hunt, North Alabama Conference, to Oklahoma Conference (for
disaster recovery) in Oklahoma City; Wendy Lothert, Minnesota Conference, to
Family Support Services in Billings, Mont.; Erin Luchenbill, Missouri East
Conference, to Bread for the World, Silver Springs, Md.; and April
McGlothin, Texas Conference, to Central United Methodist Church in Detroit.

Also, Parvina Nadjibulla, North Alabama Conference, to Church Center for the
United Nations, New York; Amy Pyles, West Virginia Conference, to the Wesley
Foundation Campus and Community Project in Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Veena
Srinvas, Texas Conference, to First United Methodist Church in Wasalla,
Alaska.
