ADRA Team Prepares Relief Distribution To Earthquake
Survivors In Taiwan

Sai Kung, Hong Kong/SAR. (APD) An Adventist Development
and Relief Agency (ADRA) ground response team is already on
location at earthquake-devastated areas near Taipei, the
capital of Taiwan, following the magnitude 7.6 quake that hit
the Chinese republic early this morning. The ADRA team is
determining the most critical needs of the survivors, and
preparing for the distribution of supplies.

"Enough work is being done by our ground team to determine
which supplies are needed most," says Scott Christiansen,
ADRA's director for China, who is leading out in the
assessment of the area.

ADRA's immediate plan is to be involved in water purification.
ADRA's ground response team, led by ADRA's Taiwan
representative James Wu, also plans to begin putting together
health/sanitation/safety packages and food packages for those
in greatest need.

The Taiwan Adventist College in Nantou County is the location
chosen as ADRA's logistical center for assembling and
distributing the packages of supplies. "Though very close to
the epicenter, the college somehow escaped damage and no
one was injured," adds Christiansen.

ADRA's international network is currently raising and allocating
emergency relief funds to assist with further relief efforts in
Taiwan. (Editor: Beth Schaefer for APD)
