    Multicultural Church Conference Slated 
 
    April 2000 Conference Will Be the First of Its Kind

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Next April 27-30, the Office of Evangelism and Racial and 
Cultural Diversity of the National Ministries Division will a sponsor the 
first conference ever designed specifically for multicultural congregations 
in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). 
 
    The conference entitled "One Vine: Many Branches," will be held in St. 
Louis. 
 
    Presbyterian evangelism officials estimate there are 268 
multiracial/multicultural congregations in the PC(USA).  There are several 
hundred ethnic or racial specific churches and many other Presbyterian 
congregations "are sensing a call to become more culturally inclusive," 
according to evangelism leaders. 
 
    Workshops and plenary presentations will focus on such aspects of 
multicultural ministry as creating effective multicultural worship, 
leadership development in multicultural congregations, how changing 
demographics impact multicultural ministries and the unique challenges 
facing the creation of multicultural new church developments.
