New Adventist College Opens in Ukraine

Kiev, Ukraine. (APD) On October 15, 1999, the Ukrainian
Seventh-day Adventist Church opened the Ukrainian College
of Arts and Sciences. The institution has government
approval to offer Bachelor degrees in Business
Administration and English. This institution is the
first private college to be authorised to offer tertiary
level degrees with state recognition. There are several
seminaries in the country offering non-accredited programs.

"Our Church in the Ukraine is pleased to be able to open
a college to provide Christian education to the youth of
the Church, as well as non-Adventist students," said
Anatoli Zhalovaga. Eighty-six students began classes at
the beginning of October under national Seventh-day
Adventist teachers.

Located 20 kilometres south of Kiev, the Ukrainian capital,
the college property originally served as a recreation
centre for families of employees of military factories
in the area. It was acquired with several buildings that
are being refurbished to be used as classrooms, offices,
student residences, staff housing, as well as a cafeteria,
auditorium, library, and other services.

The Ukrainian College of Arts and Sciences is the
95th institution of higher learning authorised and
recognised by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
