    by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Presbyterian Criminal Justice Program is seeking
nominees for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Restorative Justice Award for
the year 2000.

The deadline for nominations is March 15, 2000. Nominations may be
made by a congregation, session, presbytery or synod, or an agency or group
related to the PC(USA). Nominations by individuals will not be accepted.

The award, established in 1991, recognizes Presbyterian individuals or
groups related to the PC(USA) who are making outstanding contributions to
direct-service ministries or to change advocacy related to the criminal
justice system in the U.S.

The denomination defines restorative justice as "addressing the hurts
and needs of the victim, the offender and the community in such a way that
all - victim, offender and community - might be healed."

Individual nominees must be members of the PC(USA). Nominated groups
must have a clear connection to the denomination. The winner will be
chosen by the National Ministries Division Committee of the General
Assembly Council.

Nominations should include the name of the nominee and/or project, a
description of why the nominee is deserving, and the nominating body's
name, address and relationship to the PC(USA). A reasonable amount of
documentation about the nominee and/or project may also be submitted.

More information is available from Rowland Brucken, Presbyterian
Criminal Justice Program, 253 Henry Street, Eminence, KY 40019; phone (502)
