`Access Sunday 2000' set for May 21
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-"Access Sunday 2000," a special observance in the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) designed to recognize the gifts of persons
with disabilities and to raise congregational awareness about disability,
has been set for May 21, 2000.
According to Sharon Kutz-Mellem, staff for Presbyterians for
Disabilities Concerns (PDC) - a network of the Presbyterian Health,
Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA) - "observing this special day
reminds us that the condition of everyone before God is the same regardless
of physical, mental, emotional or spiritual wholeness. It also reminds us
that we need to evaluate the attitudes and beliefs that can prevent persons
with disabilities from sharing themselves and their God-given gifts and
abilities for the life and growth of the church."
Worship aids and other resources for "Access Sunday 2000" are available
free of charge from PDC/PHEWA, 100 Witherspoon Street, Louisville, KY
40202; phone, (502) 569-5800; or fax (502) 569-8034.
