ABC/USA Releases Funds for Venezuela Relief

The American Baptist Churches USA World Relief Office
has released $20,000 to Church World Service for
emergency relief ministries in Venezuela following mudslides
and flooding that have claimed thousands of lives.
The disaster, caused by ongoing torrential rains, has
been centered along the country's Caribbean coast.
Considered one of worst natural calamities in Venezuela's
history, it has left some 150,000 persons homeless and may
claim as many as 30,000 lives, according to some officials.
Church World Service and Witness, the relief and
development arm of the National Council of Churches of
Christ, has funded local partner organizations in Venezuela
for the purchase of blankets and mattresses for persons who
have evacuated the affected area.
American Baptists wishing to help in emergency relief
work in Venezuela may do so through One Great Hour of
Sharing (Monthly Report of Mission Support, line 7),
designating funds for "Venezuela Flood Relief."
