"Opinion Line" Set up to Receive Responses
     to Possible NCC Contribution

    by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Due to the recent controversy regarding the potential
contribution to the National Ccouncil of Churches by the General Assembly
Council, an "opinion line" (telephone voicemail) has been set up at
(502) 569-8181. A person will not answer this line - it's a voicemail-only
line. General Assembly Council officials have pledged to listen to all
messages recorded by callers in response to the potential one-time grant of
$400,000 to help wipe out the NCC's $4 million shortfall for 1999.
