LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities
(APCU) will hold its annual Presidents' Conference in Atlanta March 16-19.
The conference brings together the presidents of Presbyterian-related
colleges and universities and international guests for presentations and
discussions of diversity and its impact on higher education.
Agnes Scott College, a Presbyterian-related liberal arts school for
women in Decatur, Ga., will serve as host. Events will take place at the
college and at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta. The
program's theme is "A World of Diversity: Racial Ethnic Diversity; Cultural
Diversity; and Religious and Ideological Diversity."
The Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities consists of
66 higher-education institutions related to the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.), working to enhance the church's mission in higher education.
Additional information on the conference, featured speakers and the
association can be found at http://www.apcu.net.
HASTINGS, Neb. - Dr. Richard E. Hoover, the 13th president of Hastings
College, has announced that he will retire on March 1.
The executive committee of the Hastings Board of Trustees is expected
to ask the full board to accept Hoover's retirement and name Vice President
Phillip Dudley acting president. Hoover said he and his wife, Elaine, had
been considering retirement for several months.
"Hastings College is preparing to develop its next five-year strategic
plan," Hoover said. "It is a natural time for new leadership to be present
for planning and implementation."
Hoover became president of Hastings College in October 1995. He is
credited with having greatly expanded opportunities for students and
improved the quality of the college's liberal-arts program. During his
first year, he led the campus community in the creation of a strategic plan
and a campus master plan of goals and objectives.
DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre College is one of four sites chosen to host general
election debates in 2000, according to a recent announcement in Washington
from the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). Centre will host the
only vice presidential debate of the campaign, scheduled for Oct. 5 in the
school's Norton Center for the Arts. Presidential debates are scheduled for
Oct. 3 in Boston, Oct. 11 in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Oct. 17 in St. Louis.
Additional details are available online at Centre's World Wide Web site:

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College has received a $36,000 grant from
an anonymous donor to enhance its church-relations efforts.
Westminster recently reaffirmed its covenant agreement with the Synod
of the Trinity (PC (U.S.A.). The college expects to use the funding to
create four church-relations student internships, support additional choir
performances at nearby churches and expand continuing-education programs
for church youth, lay leaders and clergy.
"This grant will help us expand our outreach to churches in the
community," said the Rev. William Maloney, Westminster's church-relations
director.
