It will be sent to LWF member churches for study

GENEVA, 7 March 2000 (lwi) - "Adventists and Lutherans in Conversation"
is the English title of a recently produced three-language volume that
contains the final report from the conversations between Lutherans and
Seventh-day Adventists in the years 1994-1998. The 86-page publication,
is also titled "Adventisten und Lutheraner im Gespraech" (German) and
"Adventistes et Lutheriens en Conversation" (French).

The publication is edited by Jean-Claude Verrecchia, director of the
Faculte Adventiste de Theologie in Collonges-sous-Salève, France. The
report reflects the results of the discussions which took place in the
course of the four sessions of bilateral conversations sponsored by the
Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the General Conference of
Seventh-day Adventists.

In their preface, the Rev. Sven G. Oppegaard (LWF) and Dr. Bert B. Beach
(General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists) point out that the two
sponsoring church organizations are not responsible for the report and
its recommendations. But they underline, the friendly and constructive
atmosphere of the conversations and express the hope that the seminal
work presented in the new publication "will be a contribution to
improved mutual knowledge and understanding between the communions both
locally and on the world level."

On the Lutheran side, this report will now be sent to the LWF member
churches for study and response. A volume containing the papers
presented in the course of the conversations will also be published
during spring. The publication will appear in English only.

(The LWF is a global communion of 128 member churches in 70 countries
representing nearly 59.5 million of the world's 63.1 million Lutherans.
Its highest decision-making body is the Assembly held every six or seven
years. Between Assemblies, the LWF is governed by a 49-member Council,
which meets annually, and by its Executive Committee. The LWF
secretariat is located in Geneva, Switzerland.)
