ANNIE JOE DAWSON, AMERICAN BAPTIST ASSEMBLY BENEFACTOR, DIES
Annie Joe Dawson, a long-time benefactor of the
American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, Wis., died April 5.
She was 92.
Along with her husband, John, she was instrumental in
raising funds for the purchase of the Assembly property in
1943. They bought what is now Dawson House on the grounds
and then donated it back to the Assembly. The Annie Joe
Dawson Garden was dedicated at the Assembly in 1998.
Annie Joe Dawson served as president of the Women's
Auxiliary of the Central Baptist Children's Home. John A.
Dawson, an investment banker and active layman, was elected
to a one-year term as president of the (then) American
Baptist Convention in 1952.
A funeral service was held April 8 at North Shore
Baptist Church in Chicago, where the Dawsons were long-time
members.
Her son, John H. Dawson, is chair of the Lawsonia
Board of Directors and a member of the ABA Board.
Condolences may be sent to him at 7430 N. Paulina St.,
Chicago, IL 60626.
