FUNDS RELEASED FOR FAMINE RELIEF
IN ETHIOPIA AND NORTH KOREA
The American Baptist Churches USA World Relief Office
this week has released emergency grants to aid in work to
alleviate famine conditions in both Ethiopia and North
Korea.
One Great Hour of Sharing grants of $20,000 for
Ethiopia and $5,000 for North Korea were sent by World
Relief Officer Charles Sydnor to Church World Service, the
relief and development arm of the National Council of
Churches of Christ.
Ethiopia has been devastated by several years of
ongoing droughts. The funds for that country are part of a
$1-million CWS appeal that will provide support for
agricultural endeavors and supplemental food aid. The grant
for North Korea will be used by CWS and its partners to
counter significant setbacks in food production caused by a
series of floods and droughts since 1995.
