HASTINGS, Neb. -- Dr. Phillip Dudley was named the 14th president of
Hastings College on April 26 by the college's board of trustees during its
semi-annual meeting.
Members of the board of trustees voted to appoint Dudley president
effective immediately. He has been serving as acting president since the
March 1, retirement of Richard Hoover.
"During his tenure at Hastings College, Dr. Dudley has been totally
committed to this institution in every possible way," said Cal Johnson,
chairman of the board of trustees. "His extensive background in recruitment,
fund-raising, student affairs and the classroom has helped make Hastings
College the place it is today." He said the board is confident a national
search would not have found "anyone with more suitable qualifications" than
Dudley to lead the institution into the 21st century.
Dudley, who served as vice president from 1978 to 2000, has taught
economics at Hastings College since 1973. He earned his bachelor's degree in
mathematics, business and economics from Southwestern College in Winfield,
Kan., his master's degree in economics from Wichita State University, and
his doctorate in economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A former
president of the Hastings Public Schools Board of Education, Dudley received
the Outstanding Advisor Award at Hastings College in 1993. Dudley is an
elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.

LAURINBURG, N.C. -- The resignation of St. Andrews Presbyterian College
President Warren L. Board was accepted April 27 in an executive session of
the Board of Trustees. Citing health reasons that could no longer be
ignored, Board will step down as president, effective May 31, after more
than six years of service to the college. The St. Andrews Board of Trustees
then appointed Douglas W. Hix to replace Board, effective June 1.
Board's resignation came following a series of discussions with the
leadership of the Board of Trustees. "This was a wrenching decision for me,"
said Board, who assumed the presidency of St. Andrews in March 1994. "It has
been especially difficult to acknowledge the signals being sent by a body
that has served me so well for so long. Ultimately, I had no choice but to
pay attention."
Former Governor Jim Holshouser, Chairman of the St. Andrews Board of
Trustees, had high praise for Board.
"Warren Board has been the ideal leader for St. Andrews for the past six
years," Holshouser said. "His passionate commitment to this college has been
an inspiration to everyone, and we will truly miss him." Though Board will
be missed, Holshouser said "we must express our excitement" that Hix has
accepted the presidency of St. Andrews. Board and his wife, Dr. Jeri
Fitzgerald Board, plan to move to Florida.

DANVILLE, Ky. -- David Anderson, associate professor of economics at Centre
College, is the author of a study guide that has become a top seller for
amazon.com, according to school officials. "Cracking the AP Economics," part
of a Princeton Review series, has been selling at a rate that ranks it among
the top 1 percent of books offered by the electronic bookseller.
The book first appeared during February in a press run of 7,000, and it
already has gone into a second printing. Anderson is the author of another
similar study guide, "Cracking the Golden State Economics," targeted
specifically to high school students in California. Both study guides offer
advice, information and sample questions for high school students preparing
to take standardized tests for Advancement Placement (AP) credit.
