RICHMOND, Va. - Eighty-nine students will receive diplomas during Union
Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education's
commencement May 28 at Grace Covenant Church, 1627 Monument Ave.  The Rev.
Marian McClure, director of the Worldwide Ministries Division, is the
commencement speaker.  Degrees will be awarded in eight programs including
23 master of arts degrees in Christian education and 40 master of divinity
degrees.  The graduating class is composed of students from 20 states and 10
foreign countries.

AUSTIN, Texas - Four graduating seniors at Austin Theological Seminary
received fellowships in recognition of their outstanding academic
achievement and promise for ministry.  The fellowships were announced at the
annual Austin Seminary Association Annual Meeting.  Valerie J. Sansing is
the recipient of the David Stitt Fellowship, which has a stipend of $7,500;
John R. Gage, the Pile-Morgan Fellowship, which has a stipend of $6,000;
Elizabeth A. "Anni" Jenkins, the Newell Fellowship, with a stipend of
$2,500; and John Gruel, the Janie Maxwell Morris Fellowship, with a grant of
$2,000.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Nancy J. Ramsay, the Harrison Ray Anderson professor of
pastoral theology at Louisville Seminary, has received a grant from the
Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion to develop
anti-racism resources for practical theological education.  The grant is for
$45,651.  It is to be used to develop resources to assist theological
faculty and seminarians to deconstruct racist assumptions that often
underlie white teaching practices and to develop teaching practices to
support an anti-racist, inclusive vision for community.

DECATUR, Ga. - The Board of Trustees of Columbia Theological Seminary has
voted to receive Brian Wren as the inaugural holder of the Miriam H. and
John A. Conant Chair of Worship.  Wren is internationally known for his work
in hymnody and he has lectured and led many conferences and seminars
throughout his career.  Trinity Presbyterian Church of Atlanta has created
this new faculty chair.  In 1993, he delivered the Smyth Lectures at
Columbia, with musicial help from his spouse, the Rev. Susan Heafield.  In
addition, the 1990 edition of the Presbyterian Hymnal contains 11 entries by
Wren.
