GCFA elects officers, begins 2001-2004 work

NOTE: See the end of this article for a list of the United Methodists who
will serve on the church's General Council on Finance and Administration for
the next four years.

CLEVELAND (UMNS) - The financial administrative arm of the United Methodist
Church met May 13, the day after the conclusion of the denomination's
highest legislative assembly, to organize for the next four years.

Bishop Alfred Norris was elected president of the General Council on Finance
and Administration (GCFA). Norris leads the church's Northwest Texas-New
Mexico Area. Other officers are Bishop Robert Fannin, Birmingham Area, vice
president and chair of financial services; Connie Mitchell, secretary; Peggy
Sewell, chair of episcopal services; Bishop Mary Ann Swenson, Denver Area,
chair of property services; and John Woodruff, chair of connectional
services.

Sandra Kelley Lackore was re-elected the council's top staff executive; her
title is general secretary of the agency and treasurer of the church.
Several committees were named and their chair people elected.

Cashar W. Evans Jr., whose term on the council had expired, was elected to
the board of the United Methodist Foundation. He is currently president of
the board.

In addition to the other members (listed below), one representative from the
Pan-Methodist churches will join the council in accordance with legislation
passed at the General Conference May 2-12.
