	Enthusiasm for redevelopment is rising

	by Jane Hines

LONG BEACH, June 27 - A capacity luncheon crowd of 200 people heard Steve
Yamaguchi testify on June 27 that church redevelopment can really happen.
It has happened at Grace Presbyterian Church in Long Beach, which Yamaguchi
has served as pastor for twelve years.

He is known to many at the 212th General Assembly as chair of the
Assembly's worship committee. The excitement generated in his congregation
in recent years was also evident in the Assembly's Sunday morning worship
service.

The redevelopment network has seen rapid growth in the past five years. A
churchwide redevelopment conference is scheduled for January 14-17, 2001 in
Miami, Fla. Other redevelopment conferences are scheduled in synods and
presbyteries in the coming months. "Transforming experiences are possible,"
said North Alabama Presbytery Executive John Rickard, who attended the
luncheon.
