Committee approves overtures on development of special resources

	by Sue Boardman

LONG BEACH, June 27 – The members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s
General Assembly Committee on Christian Education and Publishing continued
work Tuesday morning, returning to the action items on Overture 00-38.
These dealt with the development of resources for pastoral care with gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends.

Deadlines and cost modifications were made and the committee voted to send
the overture to the Assembly for action later this week. Overture advocates
spoke passionately in favor of this effort to include all persons in the
care of the church.

Members also approved, with minor modifications, Commissioner’s Resolution
10, calling for General Assembly Council to seek ways to provide
cost-effective Braille versions of “The Presbyterian Hymnal” and “The Book
of Common Worship” for those who need these resources.
