Medical Benevolence Foundation and the International Health Ministries
office host breakfast

	by Emett H. Barfield

LONG BEACH, June 28 - Wednesday morning Daniel L. Force of the Medical
Benevolence Foundation and Dorothy Brewster-Lee of the International Health
Ministries hosted the International Health Breakfast.

Two missionaries were present to update and challenge the mission minded
group. They said that in a revised concept of medical mission, health must
happen within the cultures and conditions under which individuals live. Both
used their individual experiences to demonstrate effective means of
accomplishing this through indigenous churches and leadership.

The first to speak was Dr. Richard Harding. Hardy is a missionary to
Nepal, serving as senior health consultant. His responsibility is to train
health workers, teach classes in community medicine, and consult in other
areas of health care.

Harding was followed by Larry Sthreshley who was born and grew up in the
Belgian Congo, the son of PCUS missionary parents. Stationed in Yaounde,
Cameroon, Sthreshley is the regional health consultant for central and west
Africa. He spends the majority of his time as a health ministries
consultant. The balance is spent with mission efforts of other
denominations developing health ministry strategies and analyzing health
service delivery institutions and projects in Africa.

Daniel Force and Dorothy Brewster-Lee closed the meeting with a challenge
to all to return to their particular churches to provide financial and human
resources to aid in the mission enterprise of the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.).
