SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth College professors Arlin Migliazzo and Dale
Soden are among 30 professors at U.S. Presbyterian colleges and universities
who have been invited to a conference on how their Christian faith impacts
their teaching. Whitworth was one of only three schools to have two faculty
members chosen for the "Consultation on the Vocation of the Presbyterian
Teacher," scheduled for Aug. 10-13 in Louisville and Danville, Ky.
The conference, sponsored by the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and
Universities and Centre College in Danville, is funded by a grant from the
Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion.

BATESVILLE, Ariz. -- Lyon College has won a national award for a project
that improved the efficiency of its campus computer system. The college
received a $5,000 award for its submission, "Efficient, Equal-Access
Computing," to the National Association of College and University Business
Offices (NACUBO) Higher Education Awards program, held recently in Chicago.
The program, sponsored by Barnes & Noble College Bookstores, recognizes
achievements in improving the quality and reducing the cost of higher
education as well as unique revenue-generating initiatives.
Lyon College was one of six institutions around the country to receive
monetary awards, which were presented during NACUBO's annual meeting. Its
project addressed recurring computer-compatibility problems experienced by
students, faculty, and staff, who used both Macintosh and IBM compatible
PCs.
Every computer on campus now connects to a bank of application servers that
actually run the software. When problems arise, technicians can remotely
view and control a user's session and provide a solution over the phone.

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- Illinois College has formed a partnership with
WSEC-TV, the public-television station that serves west-central Illinois.
The joint venture will provide new opportunities for students interested in
television production as a career, according to Frederik Ohles, vice
president for academic affairs and dean of the college. WSEC, a Public
Broadcasting Station in Springfield, Ill., will get access to production
facilities in the college's Kirby Learning Center.
WSEC will provide four annual internships for IC students, and with the
college will co-produce three programs each year. The college will become an
institutional member of WSEC and be featured in its promotional
announcements.
