RALPH ROTT, FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF
AMERICAN BAPTIST WORLD MISSION SUPPORT, DIES
Word has been received of the death yesterday of the
Rev. Dr. Ralph R. Rott, executive director of American
Baptist Churches USA World Mission Support from 1968 to
1982.
Rott joined denominational fund-raising in 1958 as a
field staff person for the American Baptist Convention's
Council on Missionary Cooperation. In that role he promoted
the Christian Higher Education Challenge and the Unified
Budget in Rhode Island and Connecticut. He later served as
associate director of Promotion for Eastern Pennsylvania and
Delaware; associate director of the Department of General
Promotion/Division of World Mission Support; and Eastern
regional counselor for the World Mission Campaign.
Rott previously had held pastorates in Illinois,
Wisconsin and New York and was director of the Emmanuel
Christian Center in Buffalo, N.Y. He also was a U.S. Army
chaplain, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.
Under Rott's leadership of World Mission Support the
American Baptist Mission Budget grew from $14 million to $32
million and two new offerings were introduced--One Great
Hour of Sharing and the Retired Ministers and Missionaries
Offering.
Following his retirement Rott served as a fund-raising
consultant with the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit
Board.
Memorial service arrangements are incomplete at
present.
