"Men and AIDS" will be the focus of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.

Chosen by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the theme
will be used to increase awareness of the risk of HIV/AIDS among all men,
whatever their age, race or sexual orientation, and the fact that men can
use their influence to slow the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Men outnumber women worldwide in the number of HIV infections and AIDS
deaths, according to UNAIDS, and their behavior often puts their sexual
partners at risk for HIV. Such behavior also can impact their children.

Men often do not give adequate attention to their own health and are more
likely than women to engage in behaviors, such as drinking, using illegal
drugs, driving recklessly and practicing unsafe sex, which put their health
at risk.

More information, including worship resources for World AIDS Day, can be
found at the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries Web site,

Those who would like a packet of worship materials mailed to them should
contact Betty Gittens at (212) 870-3869.
