Mitchell Named Interim President for Bethany College

MITCHELL NAMED INTERIM PRESIDENT FOR BETHANY COLLEGE

     CHICAGO (ELCA)   Dr. Mike L. Mitchell, vice president and academic
dean, Bethany College, Lindsburg, Kan., will serve as interim president
of the college beginning Jan. 1, 2001.  Bethany College is one of 28
colleges and universities affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America (ELCA).
     The Rev. Christopher M. Thomforde, current president of Bethany,
will become president of St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., effective
Jan. 1.  Mitchell will serve as interim president until Thomforde's
successor is appointed.  St. Olaf is a college of the ELCA.
     Mitchell has served as vice president and academic dean of Bethany
since 1998. He has been a member of the faculty there since 1973.
     The search for a new president for Bethany is underway and
expected to be complete by summer, according to Bill Gusenius, vice
chair, Bethany's board of directors and chair of the college's
presidential search committee.
