Presbyterian Writers Guild invites new authors to enter book contest

Jim Angell Award comes with $500 prize

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Presbyterian Writers Guild is seeking entries for its
8th annual "Jim Angell Award," given to the Presbyterian writer judged to
have published the best first book in the previous year.

The award carries with it a $500 prize.

Last year the award, presented each year at the Guild's General Assembly
luncheon, went to the Rev. James Chatham, pastor of Highland Presbyterian
Church in Louisville, for his book Sundays Down South: A Pastor's Stories,
published by the University of Mississippi Press.

The award was initiated in 1993 to honor the life and work of the Rev.
James W. Angell, the author of 19 books, including the best-selling How to
Spell Presbyterian.

To be eligible for the award, books must be copyrighted in 2000. Books,
along with the writer's curriculum vitae, may be sent to Katherine Bostrom,
33392 N. Mill Road, Wildwood, IL 60030. The deadline is April 1, 2001.
