INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- Paper registrations could be a thing of the past for
many pastors and lay leaders attending Disciples-related events in 2001.
Thanks to a collaboration between the Office of General Minister and
President and the Division of Homeland Ministries, Disciples can register
and pay on-line for a number of events, beginning with the Synod/Assembly.

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) General Assembly has chosen to
move its registration process to a totally web-based system developed
around the database management software used in the 1999 assembly,
according to the Rev. Mike Naylor, director of the Disciples Office of
Research. Naylor expects 30 percent of the 8,000 Disciples attending
Synod/Assembly will register on-line, up from 20 percent at the 1999
assembly.

This move prompted the Office of Research to open conversations with other
Disciples general units which have registration needs -- such as DHM -- to
utilize a common data table for name and address information.

"We have needed uniform name and address information that is constantly
updated and available to many," said the Rev. Raymond E. Brown, DHM's
interim president, whose unit will benefit greatly from the shared
enterprise. Among the DHM programs planning to use the registration system
are Disciples Men, Disciples Women, Youth Ministries and Young Adult
Ministries, in addition to the Association of Disciples Musicians' Workshop
and the Black Ministers' Retreat.

This effort serves as a pilot project and should open the door to
expanding the partnership to include other Disciples organizations,
according to Naylor.

On-line registration for the General Synod/Assembly 2001 begins Jan. 2.
Other new registration sites will open throughout 2001. Visit the
Disciples web site (http://www.disciples.org) or the Division of Homeland
Ministries web site
(http://www.homelandministries.org) for event registration information.

And for those Disciples who aren't quite ready for cyber registrations,
paper registrations still will be available for upcoming events.
