NATIONAL MINISTRIES NAMES JOHNSON AS DIRECTOR 
OF EVANGELISM
 The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Allen Johnson, senior minister of 
Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane, W. Va., has been 
named director of Evangelism for National Ministries (The 
American Baptist Home Mission Societies).  He will begin in 
this position Feb. 1, 2001.
 As director of Evangelism Johnson will join the staff 
of the Evangelism and Church Renewal Ministry Center of 
National Ministries, led by the Rev. David Laubach, 
associate executive director.  Johnson will lead a team of 
American Baptist national and regional staff committed to 
the denominational NEW LIFE 2010 goal to reach 1,000,010 new 
believers by the year 2010.  Part of his responsibility will 
be to assist American Baptist regions in developing 
strategic evangelism plans.  The Rev. Brenda Halliburton 
serves as associate director of Evangelism. 
 In addition to pastoral experience Johnson has an 
extensive background in evangelism, church growth and new 
church planting.  He has done evangelistic preaching in 
several denominations and conducted workshops, camps and 
retreats for children, youth, young and senior adults.  He 
is founder/professor of the Berean Institute of Biblical 
Studies and  also has preached extensively on radio and 
television. 
 Prior to pastoring in West Virginia Johnson served as 
pastor of North Ten Mile Baptist Church, Amity, Pa.  He also 
was director of Development and Church Relations for 
Washington City Mission, Washington, Pa., and pastor of 
Clarksville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 
Clarksville, Pa.
 In West Virginia Johnson has served on the regional 
committees for evangelism and new church planting as well as 
its stewardship commission.  He also has been on the 
region's Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.  In 
Pennsylvania Johnson chaired his association's evangelism 
committee and served on the region's Board of Directors, 
Commission on Evangelism, Commission on Church Growth and 
Outreach, and the New Church Planting Steering Committee.
 Johnson holds a Ph.D. in theology from Tyndale 
Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Tex.; an M.A. in ministry 
from Carolina University, Belmont, N.C.; and a B.A. from 
California University of Pa. 
 In making the announcement of Johnson's appointment 
National Ministries Executive Director Dr. Aidsand F. 
Wright-Riggins III said: "Dr. Jeffrey Johnson will bring new 
and innovative ideas to the important work of evangelism we 
have ahead of us.  We look forward to his enthusiastic 
enabling of local churches in their outreach for Jesus 
Christ."
