Turner named to NCE ministry team

	INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) --The Rev. Judy Turner, minister for congregational
growth, Homeland Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),
has been called to the New Congregation Establishment ministry team,
effective Jan. 1, 2001. 
	
	Turner came to Homeland Ministries in 1992. Her primary responsibilities
include providing resources for spiritual growth and evangelism, helping
congregations move toward renewal,   providing leadership for spiritual
renewal events and retreats, and helping elders develop as spiritual
leaders. 

	Her new responsibilities will include leadership development for NCE
pastors and lay persons, while remaining a staff member of Homeland
Ministries. 

	"Judy brings great gifts and passion to her new ministry," said the Rev.
James L. Powell, president of Board of Church Extension. "We celebrate
Homeland Ministries' response to the need to greatly enhance our efforts to
recruit, train and nurture leaders of new congregations. BCE and Homeland
Ministries can model the kind of creative partnership around the priority
of starting new congregations that will bring a new day of effectiveness
for Disciples in fulfilling the Great Commission."

	Turner holds degrees from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, and Vanderbilt
University, Nashville, Tenn. Before ordination in 1980 at Pulaski Heights
Christian Church in Little Rock, Ark., she worked as a counselor and taught
world religion at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and the
University of Central Arkansas in Conway.     

	She has held pastorates at Pulaski Heights Christian Church and First
Christian Church, Sherwood, Ark.

	Turner is married to the Rev. John Turner, minister of Warren Hills
Christian Church in Indianapolis. They have one daughter.
