Church will celebrate the gifts of women

Annual observance is scheduled for March 11

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Presbyterians will "Celebrate the Gifts of Women" on
Sunday, March 11.

By action of the 1993 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the
annual observance takes place on the first Sunday after International
Women's Day (March 8). It is intended to "celebrate and honor individual
women who contribute their gifts to church and community and to lift up
issues of women’s rights."

A free resource for congregations that wish to take part, written by Danelle
Crawford McKinney is available from Presbyterian Distribution Service (PDS)
in Louisville. It includes liturgical resources, background material, a
brief history of International Women's Day, suggestions for celebrating the
occasion and resources for further study.

To order the resource -- PDS item #72-700-01-001 -- call PDS at
1-800-524-2612.
