NOTE: This is a sidebar to UMNS story #069.

NEW YORK (UMNS) - "Encounter with Christ" is a permanent church fund,
established in 1992 after a consultation between United Methodist leaders
and members of the Council of Evangelical Methodist Churches in Latin
America and the Caribbean.

The United Methodist Board of Global Ministries administers the fund.

Fund monies will provide long-term support and development in Latin America
and the Caribbean in areas such as evangelistic outreach, new church
development, community-based primary health care, economic development,
clergy and laity training, and programs for street children.

Contributions are being sought from individuals, churches, annual (regional)
conferences, foundations, and public and private philanthropies. Work
provided by Volunteer In Mission teams also is considered a valuable
contribution.

Donations can be sent to the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries,
Permanent Fund No. 025100, 475 Riverside Dr., Room 1524, New York, NY 10115.
