Earth Day Sunday focuses on children

by Jerry L. Van Marter

With the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in the midst of its "Year of the
Child" emphasis, this year's Earth Day Sunday -- April 22, the first Sunday
after Easter -- will focus on youth and children as a valuable part of
caring for God's creation.

The PC(USA)'s Environmental Justice Office has prepared worship resources
for congregations who wish to observe Earth Day Sunday. The resources
include a call to worship, opening prayer, litany of confession, assurance,
sermon notes, intercessory prayer, benediction and suggested hymns.

Also included are a list of craft ideas for kids, environmental resources
designed for use with kids and energy saving and environmental protection
ideas for churches.

For more information, contact the Rev. William Somplatsky-Jarman by
toll-free phone at 888-728-7228, ext. 5809, or by email at
BillSJ@ctr.pcusa.org; or Rebecca Barnes by toll-free phone at 888-728-7228,
ext. 5811 or by email at Bbarnes@ctr.pcusa.org.
