NEW YORK (UMNS) -- The deadline for participation in the Youth Mission
Chorale 2001 Asian Tour has been extended to March 15.

Sponsored by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries, the chorale
seeks students, ages 18 to 25, who are enrolled in a United Methodist or
Methodist college or university. The students must have graduated from high
school or the equivalent by June 1.

Between May 31 and July 10, the chorale will travel to Indonesia, Singapore,
Malaysia, Cambodia, China and Mongolia to share the meaning of Christian
faith through music, drama, personal experience and witness.

Participants will perform in a variety of settings and interact with
children, youth and adults of diverse cultures. An introduction of the
histories, cultures and religions of the countries visited will be offered,
as well as encounters with Methodist youth of both emerging and established
congregations. The group also will provide witness in areas where there is
no United Methodist or Methodist outreach.

The chorale's director is the Rev. S T Kimbrough Jr., the board's executive
for mission evangelism. Jorge Lockward is the associate director. Joyce
Sohl, chief executive of the board's Women's Division, is the sponsor, and
the Rev. David Wu, the board's executive for new mission initiatives, is the
coordinator.

Eighteen to 24 students of diverse backgrounds will be selected for the
chorale. In addition to the age and school requirements, applicants must be
able to read music and submit three letters of recommendation, including one
from the student's pastor. The student or a sponsor must pay a $1,500 fee
for the trip, and the Board of Global Ministries will cover all other
expenses.

For more information about the voice audition tape and other requirements
for application, call Glendora Dazle at (212) 870-3914 or send an e-mail to
