Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Staff News

Rev. Dr. Hance Mwakabana, Study Secretary for Church and People of Other
Faiths, LWF Department for Theology and Studies (DTS), retired last February
after serving the federation for over eight years. The 62-year-old
theologian from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania has edited four
DTS publications. These include "Religious Pluralism in Africa: Challenge
and Response" (1996) in the LWF Studies series. In the Documentation series
Mwakabana edited "Theological Perspectives: Toward a Christian Theology of
Religions" (1997) and "Christianity and Other Faiths in Europe" (1995), a
report from a consultation held in Finland. He co-edited "Theological
Education and Training in a Multifaith Society" (1995), a report from a 1994
consultation in South Africa.

Dr. Ingo Wulfhorst, Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brazil
succeeds Mwakabana in the DTS from July 2001.Wulfhorst, 57, served as a
pastor in Brazilian congregations and worked as coordinator of a working
group for religious pluralism in the Brazilian church council. He taught at
the Escola Superior de Teologia in Sao Leopoldo as well as in other
institutes. Wulfhorst's doctorate studies included specialization in
theology and missiology. The Brazilian scholar has been involved in issues
of Islam in the United States.

Mr. Neville Pradhan, Church of North India, is the new Program Secretary,
Emergencies in the LWF Department for World Service (DWS). Pradhan, 50, who
began work in his new position in February, succeeds Mr. Lemma Degefa, who
in October 2000 became Program Secretary, Training and Exchange in the DWS.
