Internet service may be interrupted May 4-6

Upgrade work will limit access to online systems over weekend

by Mary Julia Pace

LOUISVILLE - The Presbyterian Church (USA) Web site - www.pcusa.org - and
other Internet connections will be out of service at times during the first
weekend in May.

Temporary shut-downs will be necessary during an overall upgrade of the site
to increase bandwidth and allow the denomination to offer improved services,
such as audio and video streaming.

Between noon on Friday, May 4, and Sunday, May 6, people who try to access
the PC(USA) Web site may get an error message advising that a requested page
"can't be found." If that happens, users should try again in a couple of
hours.

Several services will be affected during the upgrade:

* All pages linked to www.pcusa.org will be down for parts of the weekend.

* Email sent to Presbyterian Center staff from outside the building may not
arrive. This includes email sent to pcusa.org and ecunet.org.

* Email sent by Center staff to people outside the building may not arrive.

* Both GroupWise, the email message system most commonly used by Center
staff, and PresbyNet, a conferencing system accessible by the Internet, will
be down at times over the weekend.

Because some of the work will be done by outside companies, the May 4
beginning date is subject to change. Check www.pcusa.org for the latest
information, or call PresbyTel at 1-800-UP-2-DATE (872-3283).
