Nashville, Tenn. (UMNS)-United Methodist workers with children will gather
at the Convention Center in Nashville July 29-Aug. 1 to "Hear the Children
Praying," the theme for Focus 2001.  

More than 1,500 people are expected at the quadrennial event sponsored by
the churchwide Board of Discipleship in Nashville. 

Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Paul F. McCleary, a former missionary in
Bolivia and worker with ForChildren, an international development agency. He
will provide an interactive presentation allowing the audience to test its
knowledge of world conditions in "So You Want to Be a World Christian?"  

Through ForChildren and two other non-government agencies, McCleary is
participating in a program to further early childhood development in the
former Portuguese colonies of Africa: Angola, the Cape Verde Islands,
Guinea-Bissua, Mozambique, and Sao Tome and Principe. Civil war in three of
the countries and abject poverty in all of them define the future of these
children, he said.
