Some Presbyterians Just Can't be Stopped!
They retired over ten years ago after twenty two years in
international theological education, but Rev. Tan Tiat-han (who taught
church history) and his wife Oa Ni-tat (who taught church music) remain
actively engaged in the kinds of work that left deep impressions on
their students in three nations. Currently residing in a community of
retired Presbyterian clergy in Pasadena, California, USA, they recently
received a visit by two of their former students from Taiwan.
Rev. Tan still goes out every Wednesday evening to lead a Taiwanese
language Bible study at a United Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles.
Ms. Oa conducts the retired clergy choir in the community where they
live. The students reported, "The couple are healthy, full of life, and
engaged in living ministry."
While they were in Taiwan they were beloved by the students of
Tainan Theological College. They taught there from 1968 until 1980,
when they departed to take up instructional work at Trinity Theological
College in Singapore, where they spent seven years followed by a three
year term at Silliman University in the Philippines before retiring.
