Rogers chooses Janet Arbesman as vice moderator

by Eva Stimson

LOUISVILLE, June 11-Janet Arbesman, a minister commissioner from Grand
Canyon Presbytery who is a third-generation Japanese American, will serve as
vice moderator of the 213th General Assembly.
Newly elected moderator Jack Rogers announced his choice for vice moderator
this morning to about 1,000 people gathered for the General Assembly
Breakfast.

Arbesman gave the nominating speech for Rogers before his election June 9.

Calling Arbesman "my very good friend and trusted colleague," Rogers said
she had served as pastor of several churches and is now a member at large in
Grand Canyon Presbytery and active on the presbytery's Committee on
Ministry.

Last year, Rogers said, Arbesman brought 60 people from her presbytery to
Long Beach, Calif., to observe the 2000 General Assembly.
