CHARLES MOORE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF
NORTHERN BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
Dr. Charles W. Moore, senior pastor of First
Baptist Church in Charlotte, Mich., for the past 11 years,
has been named president of Northern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Lombard, Ill., effective July 1.
Moore was elected by the Board of Trustees at
Northern, one of ten theological schools related to
American Baptist Churches USA through Educational
Ministries. Moore succeeds Dr. Ian Chapman, who is
retiring as president after 13 years and will become
chancellor.
Moore also will serve as professor of Christian
ministry and leadership.
Under Moore's leadership in Charlotte, First Baptist
completed both a successful capital funds campaign that
raised $750,000 and a major building project.
Moore holds the B.A. degree in communications
and biblical studies from Geneva College, an M.Div. degree
from Bethel Theological Seminary and a D.Min. degree
from Northern. He also was honored by Northern as a
Grow scholar in 1998 for his outstanding ministry and
scholarship.
"I am both humbled and honored by the
opportunity to serve God in this capacity," Moore said. "It
is my dream that we will continue to build on the
standards that have been a rich part of Northern's
history."
