Coordination and Budget Committee reports

LOUISVILLE, June 12 - On June 12, the Assembly Committee on Mission
Coordination and Budgets:

* Approved the creation of a Task Force on Racial Justice Policies to
examine the employment practices and procurement policies of the
Presbyterian Foundation, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, the Board
of Pensions and the Presbyterian Investment and Loan Program, and to report
its findings to the 215th General Assembly in 2003.

* Voted down Overture 01-39, which would have called for an evaluation of 14
of the church's social-witness programs and the elimination of the three
found least effective or least important. The committee concluded that
program evaluation is best left to the General Assembly Council (GAC), which
already has a continuing process of reviewing PC(USA) programs.

* Rejected Overture 01-49, which would have affirmed the six Great Ends of
the Church and said that no one of them should be elevated above the others.
This was proposed in a reaction to the GAC's "prioritization" process, which
ranked programs in terms of how they advanced evangelism and discipleship.
Some members expressed fear that the GAC would support evangelism
financially "to the exclusion of all else." One speaker called the Great
Ends of the Church "the greatest statement of priorities that you could have
for the church."

	The committee agreed that it would be best to continue to trust the GAC for
"the flexible deployment of resources in response to changing needs," while
expressing its commitment to and support of, all the Great Ends of the
Church.
