Assembly actions through Thursday add $0.04 to 2002 per capita

by Frank Burhman

LOUISVILLE, June 15 - Actions taken by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
General Assembly through Thursday will add $0.04 to the 2002 per capita
apportionment, according to Friday's report from the Procedures Committee.

Committee vice moderator Jinny Miller (Presbytery of Wabash Valley) told
commissioners that their actions on Wednesday and Thursday added $113,943 to
the proposed 2002 budget. That amounts to about four cents for each church
member.

The Procedures Committee offers daily updates on the financial implications
of Assembly actions. Each overture, resolution or other possible action is
evaluated for its cost, and the committee "adds up" those actions,
presenting its report the next morning.

A final revision will be presented Saturday morning, when the General
Assembly will consider final budget proposals and set the per capita
apportionment for 2002.

Budget figures presented to the committee on Monday indicated that the 2002
apportionment would need to increase by $0.22 to $5.20 to meet budget
projections. The Friday report means that this figure would rise to $5.24 as
a result of Assembly actions to date.

Miller said that items remaining on the Assembly's agenda, if they all
pass, would increase the 2002 budget by another $28,000, adding an
additional $0.01 to the per capita apportionment.

Actions to date by the Assembly also have added $85,607 to the 2001 budget,
Miller said, but that money will be absorbed in the current budget, for
which the apportionment cannot be changed in mid-year. The 2003 budget also
would increase by $70,329, or a per capita impact of about $0.03.
