CLEVELAND - In the sky of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a new tiny star
is born.

More than 130 Hispanic Presbyterians, representing 14 countries from Latin
America, gathered here June 1-3 for the first regional gathering of Hispanic
Presbyterian Men. Participants came from the synods of Northeast, Trinity,
Mid-Atlantic, South Atlantic, Living Waters, Covenant, Lincoln Trails,
Puerto Rico and the Sun.

Based on Matthew 25, the event explored the biblical concept of the kingdom
of God in two plenary presentations and four workshops.

Keynote presentations included "The Kingdom of God and Human Projects" by
the Rev. Harry del Valle, synod executive for the Synod of Puerto Rico; and
"Prayer as a Tool of the Kingdom" by the Rev. Victor Aloyo, director of
vocations for Princeton Theological Seminary.

Workshops included "Men and Women for the Kingdom," led by Yolanda
Hernandez, associate for Hispanic women in the Women's Ministries Program
Area of the National Ministries Division; "Immigrants for the Kingdom," led
by Luis Rivera of McCormick Theological Seminary; "Therapist for the
Kingdom," led by the Rev. Silas E. Pinto, consultant for Portuguese language
ministries in the Evangelism and Church Development Program Area of the
National Ministries Division; and "Evangelists for the Kingdom," led by the
Rev. Hector Rodriguez, associate of Hispanic congregational enhancement in
the Racial Ethnic Program Area of the National Ministries Division.

Future plans call for the development of a West/Central gathering of
Hispanic Presbyterian Men and the election of a National Coordinating
Committee to prepare a national assembly of Hispanic Presbyterian Men.

Current Coordinating Committee members include the Rev. Jose Luis Casal of
Berwyn, Ill.; the Rev. Martin Concepcion of Cleveland, the Rev. Luis R.
Quinones of Philadelphia; the Rev. Jose Torres of Aguadillo, P.R.; and the
Rev. Manuel Rodriguez of Albuquerque, N.M.
