Polish Bible Society Honours Work of Adventist Leader

Warsaw, Poland, 06.07.2001. (APD) The National
Committee of the Bible Society in Poland has awarded
the title "Honorary Member of the Bible Society" to Dr.
Bert B. Beach, director of inter-church relations for
the Seventh-day Adventist Church worldwide. The honour,
awarded at a June 12 ceremony, has been given to only
three other people.

Beach's support of the work of the Polish Bible Society
has spanned more than four decades. In giving the
award, Bible Society leaders called Beach "a spokesman
for reconciliation and freedom in Poland." While Poland
was still under communist rule, Beach carried Bible
Society documents from Warsaw to England to avoid
unnecessary complications. Beach says that over the
years he has encouraged Adventist Church members to
support the Bible Society as a way of "getting involved
in something beyond their own communities."

"This honour came as a total surprise to me," says Beach.
"It is really an honour to the Seventh-day Adventist
Church in Poland and its great support of Bible
translation and distribution of the Scriptures."
