NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS)--Twelve United Methodist students pursuing careers
in music have been awarded the first Miriam Hoffman Scholarships. 

Administered by the Office of Loans and Scholarships of the United Methodist
Board of Higher Education and Ministry, the scholarship fund was established
from Hoffman's estate to help United Methodist students pursuing a
vocational career or continuing their education in music. Preference is
given to students interested in music education or music ministry. The total
awarded to the 12 students for the 2001-02 academic year is $12,000.

Students receiving the awards are:
·	Gloria L. Edwards, Minnesota Conference, attending Bethel College,
St. Paul, Minn.;
·	Barbara C. Hilton, West Michigan Conference, attending Indiana
Wesleyan University; 
·	Christi M. Hollingsworth, South Carolina Conference, attending
Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C.;
·	Cynthia L. King, West Ohio Conference, attending Otterbein College,
Westerville, Ohio;
·	Amanda J. Miller, Florida Conference, attending Toccoa Falls (Ga.)
College;
·	Lisa M. Pruitt, West Ohio Conference, attending Otterbein College,
Westerville, Ohio;
·	Beth R. Rivers, East Ohio Conference, attending Kent State
University, Kent, Ohio;
·	Andrea D. Shallcross, East Ohio Conference, attending West Virginia
University, Morgantown, W. Va.;
·	Monte H. Sorrells, Western North Carolina Conference, attending
Brevard (N.C.) College;
·	Michelle L. Sundy, Central Pennsylvania Conference, attending
Immaculata (Pa.) College;
·	Ann E. Swenson, Iowa Conference, attending Simpson College,
Indianola, Iowa; and
·	Joseph F. Woodhull, Greater New Jersey Conference, attending
