NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - Twelve Native American students attending seminary
in the upcoming academic year are each receiving a combined scholarship and
loan designed to encourage them to serve in a United Methodist ministry
among American Indians for two years.

The 12 students will share $152,500 through the Native American Seminary
Awards, administered by the Office of Loans and Scholarships of the United

By action of the 2000 General Conference, half of each award will be a
scholarship and half will be in the form of a loan that will be forgiven if

theological school.

To be eligible for the loan and scholarship, the student must have Native
American/American Indian/Alaskan Indian parentage (at least one parent) and
