From 30th July to 10th August the Santimen Presbyterian, Adventist, and
Roman Catholic Churches joined to sponsor the fourth annual Aboriginal
Folk Arts Training School. About 110 people participated. During the daylight
hours elementary school students learned traditional songs, Paiwan
language, dances, tribal culture, folklore, wood, stone and papercraft
and beadwork. In the evening middle and high school students had schoolwork
tutoring and instruction in Paiwan language, folk culture and weaving.

The Rev. Chen Ming-kuang, pastor of the Presbyterian Church said, "This
school gathered together those college students from the area who had
come home for the summer and used them as leaders and teachers. We united the
churches in this town, which usually are very separate, and sought
together to strengthen our community."
