CHERRY HILL, NJ - Exactly one month after the horrific events of Sept. 11
changed the world, 300 Presbyterians gathered here for Worldwide Ministries
Division-sponsored conference appropriately titled "Hospitality in the
Household of God."

More than 20 international partners of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a
number of current and former mission workers brought a welcome depth to
conversations about the changed world situation.

Keynote speaker Marian McClure, director of Worldwide Ministries, spoke of
the increased importance of PC(USA) mission workers. "The world needs to
see humble, serving, guest Americans," she said.

Former General Assembly moderator Syngman Rhee spoke of mission as the
exercise of hospitality in an inhospitable world. Preacher Robert Burkins,
pastor of Elmwood United Presbyterian Church, East Orange, NJ, challenged
listeners to go deep and broad with their vision of hospitality. "Let us
not be naive," he said. "Hospitality is risky!"

A second "Hospitality in the Household of God" conference will be held Nov.
1-4 in Anaheim, CA. Registrations will be accepted until Oct. 22. For more
information, contact Worldwide Ministries at www.pcusa.org/wmdconf or
