AMERICAN BAPTISTS IN NYC CLEANUP EFFORT
REQUEST PRAYER
American Baptist Men Disaster Relief teams
engaged in cleanup efforts in Lower Manhattan have
requested prayer support as they work to clean
apartments in the vicinity where the World Trade Center
towers once stood.
American Baptist Men's Ministries President Cody
Pollington, of Great Falls, Mont., asked for prayer for the
health and safety of the teams traveling to and working in
New York City. He also requested prayers "for our
American Baptist family and all of the families involved in
this disaster."
Dozens of volunteers from ABMen's organizations
across the country responded quickly to the initial request
for crews committed to serve one-week assignments.
Currently there is no need for additional volunteers.
The cleanup effort began Oct. 21 and is based at
the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The ABMen
Pennsylvania/Delaware Disaster Relief trailer arrived on
that day, along with Bob Swan, PA/DE regional
coordinator and former national president of ABMen USA,
who directed the first week's operation. He is succeeded
this week by Fred Duffield, disaster relief coordinator for
ABMen of West Virginia. Other coordinators during the
four-week cleanup include Dan McFaul, disaster relief
coordinator for ABMen of New England, and Royce Jones,
disaster relief coordinator for Mid-American Baptist Men.
In addition to the Penn/Delaware trailer, the West
Virginia and New York State trailers are on site. The New
England trailer is scheduled to arrive Nov. 3.
Ken Webster, former ABMen national disaster
relief coordinator, and Z. Allen Abbott, director of ABMen's
Ministries, helped to set up the operations base last week
in New York City. For more information about the ongoing
effort call Abbott at 1-800-ABC-3USA/x2286 or a regional
ABMen's president or disaster relief coordinator. Contact
information is available at www.nationalministries.org/ABMen.
