MCJUNKIN NAMED EXECUTIVE MINISTER
FOR PHILADELPHIA BAPTIST ASSOCIATION
The Rev. Dr. James E. McJunkin Jr., former
associate executive minister of the Philadelphia Baptist
Association, has been named executive minister of that
region.
McJunkin, who will assume his new responsibilities
next month, was elected unanimously during a recent
meeting of the PBA Board of Directors. He succeeds the
Rev. Dr. Larry K. Waltz, who retired in December 2000.
The Rev. Dr. Roy Thompson has been interim executive
minister since that time.
 McJunkin previously served the Philadelphia
Baptist Association for nine years as associate executive
minister for community outreach. He is a commissioned
missionary of the region.
Most recently McJunkin has served as executive
director of African American Interdenominational
Ministries, a faith-based agency in metropolitan
Philadelphia offering a variety of resources to enhance
ministry.
An ordained American Baptist (at Affinity Baptist
Church in the Cleveland Baptist Association), he is a
member of Grace Baptist Church of Germantown.
Founded in 1707, the Philadelphia Baptist
Association is the oldest of the 34 regions that are part of
American Baptist Churches USA. The region is comprised
of approximately 128 churches and 48,500 resident
members.
