PHEWA seeks nominations for ministry awards

Five winners will be honored at next summer's General Assembly

LOUISVILLE - The Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association is
seeking nominations for its five ministry awards. Winners will be honored at
next summer's 214th General Assembly in Columbus, Ohio.

The awards are:

*  Community Ministry Award, sponsored by Community Ministries and
Neighborhood Organizations (COMANO), honoring a community ministry that has
been faithful and creative in its ministry to and with its community.

*  Urban Ministry Award, sponsored by the Urban Network of Congregational
Leadership (UNCL), honoring the ministry of an urban congregation that has
strengthened its congregation and/or served its neighborhood through an
effective outreach ministry.

*  The David Hancock Award, sponsored by the Presbyterian Network on Alcohol
and Other Drug Abuse (PNAODA), honoring a church or church professional for
their contributions in the field of addictions awareness, intervention
and/or recovery.

*  The Margaret A. Fuad Award, also sponsored by PNAODA, honoring a
layperson who has been instrumental in getting the church and/or community
involved in issues related to drug and alcohol abuse through education,
awareness or treatment.

*  The Florence Iversen Kraft Award, sponsored by the Presbyterian Serious
Mental Illness Network (PSMIN), honoring a congregation which has
demonstrated outstanding leadership in its ministry with those who have a
serious mental illness and with their families.

Deadline for nominations for these awards is March 1, 2002. Nominations
should include who is being nominated and for which award; the contact
person for the nomination, with address and phone number for both the
nominee and the nominator; and a two-page description of the nominee,
including why they are deserving of the award.
