*Earthquake Damaged Church Rebuilt, Rededicated
Hsin-Yi (Alan) Presbyterian Church, which is a member of the
Bunun Presbytery (diocese) of the Presbyterian Church in
Taiwan (PCT) celebrated the dedication of its new
facilities on February 2nd. Over five hundred people
attended the meeting. The church's original structure had been
damaged beyond repair in an earthquake that struck
central Taiwan on September 21, 1999.
Assisting Hsin-yi in its reconstruction efforts was Tam-sui
Presbyterian Church on Taiwan's northwest coast. This
ethnic Han congregation gave over two million Taiwan Yuan
(US$57,000) for the work.

*National Prayer Breakfast Formation Committee
Taiwan's second national prayer breakfast will be held on
May 18th. The formation and evaluation committee felt that
last year's premier event was a success worth repeating.
This year, as last, international VIP's will be invited. The
Rev. Susan Chuang, head of the international guests committee,
stressed that the names of invitees have already been confirmed,
and there are no "repeats" from last. The interdenominational
character of this year's event will be stressed as well, as
dignitaries from Canada, the Philippines and the USA are
asked to join representatives from Germany and Korea, which
sent people last year.
The main breakfast is scheduled for the morning of May
18th. Fringe events include a fasting and prayer meeting
scheduled, but not yet confirmed, to be held in the plaza in
front of the presidential office building in Taipei at the same
time. Since May 19th is also the feast of Pentecost, planners
have invited all churches on Taiwan following their regular
Sunday worship activities to hold rallies outside of municipal
government offfices to pray for the nation.
