A search committee is accepting applications through March 31 for the
position of general secretary of the United Methodist Board of Global
Ministries.

The Rev. Randolph Nugent, who is retiring at the end of the year, currently
holds that top executive position.

The search committee met March 1-2 in Chicago with representatives of the
church's boards and agencies, as well as unofficial groups, to discuss the
future of mission in the denomination and the leadership qualities needed to
guide the mission agency. Bishop Joel Martinez, president of the Board of
Global Ministries, leads the committee.

During a March 4-5 meeting following the listening event, committee members
decided to talk again with various church constituencies for recommendations
of individuals who might be suitable and interested in the job. The
committee also will employ a professional search firm to assist with the
rest of its work.

The goal is to recommend a candidate to the board's personnel committee in
September, and to have the entire board make a final decision during the
October annual meeting.

Inquiries and nominations should be sent to Martinez at P.O. Box 781688, San
Antonio, TX 78278-1688.
