UN office sponsoring terrorism seminar

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE - Tackling Terrorism: Faith Talks in the Aftermath of September 11th, a four-day seminar on terrorism and peacemaking, is scheduled for May 2 at the Presbyterian United Nations Office in New York City.

"Much has been said over the last six months concerning terrorism, security, war, and justice, but too few of these discussions have taken place within the framework of Christian love and peacemaking," said Leslie Bethell, who runs the office's seminar program. "It is our hope that, by educating Presbyterian clergy and lay people from across the country about these issues in the context of Christian ethics, we will all be able to gain a better understanding of ... what our response as peacemakers should be."

Tackling Terrorism will explore concrete ways in which Presbyterian individuals and congregations can make a difference, locally and globally. Participants will receive teaching modules and peacemaking resources to take back to their Presbyterian Church (USA) congregations and presbyteries.

For more information and registration forms, visit the UN Office's Web page - www.horeb.pcusa.org/peacemaking - or contact the PC(USA) United Nations Office: by mail at 777 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017, by phone at (212) 697-4568, or by email at seminars@presbyun.org.

The UN office is part of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program in the Congregational Ministries Division.
